How to Raise an Environmentally Conscious Child

Protecting the environment has never been more important. By raising your child to be environmentally conscious, you can make sure that they grow to be a better citizen. A pre-school in Lincoln has shared a few ways that you can raise an environmentally conscious child below.

Donate Old Toys

Old toys and nik naks are children’s favourites for a while before getting abandoned and forgotten about. A lot of them are made from unrecyclable materials which only adds to the waste ending up in landfill. Instead, you can recycle them by donating to a charitable organisation that sells them on pre-loved or donates them to less fortunate children.

Go On a Nature Trail

There’s lots that can be taught on a nature trail from the names of wild critters to how plants grow and thrive. Exploring nature can help your child to develop an interest and a desire to protect living things.

Be Energy Aware

The little things that you do can have a big impact on the planet. You can reduce fossil fuel consumption by being energy aware and switching things off when not in use as a family. Remember, standby doesn’t mean off. Switching things off at the mains will ensure that your devices aren’t still eating up electricity. Better yet, plug them out completely.

Try to Walk More

Walking is beneficial for health as it helps us to stay fit and healthy. It also cuts down on the harmful emissions that are let out into the atmosphere such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides.

Gardening

Gardening is a great way to teach children about the natural world and do your bit for the environment. By growing your own fruit and veg, you can help to reduce emissions and pass that knowledge on to your children.
