Kitting Out the Kids for Autumn

When the leaves start to fall from the trees and the days begin to get shorter, it’s time to start thinking about clothes that are suitable for colder weather. In other words, it’s time to kit out the kids for autumn and winter.

Here we look at some of the seasons cool colours and offer some practical advice about the clothing items to look out for.

The Colours of Autumn

One of the standout colours for kids, mums and dads, this autumn is red – it’s cosy, vibrant and fun. So, look out for red woolly jumpers, scarfs, hats and gloves for a splash of autumnal colour.

Another colour to look out for this autumn and which goes nicely with red is moss green. Dungarees, trousers and dresses in moss green will pair up nicely with a red jumper or cardigan, wellingtons or hat – this is also a great look for Christmas and will see kids right through until spring comes around again.

Lots of Layers

Layers never go out of fashion, particularly for kids, as they make it easier for parents to control their temperature.

Short or long sleeved t-shirts make for the perfect base layer during autumn, because they are comfortable for indoor activities and you can add layers over the top for when you venture outdoors.

No matter just how cold it is outdoors, it’s always a good idea to have a second layer that can be worn between your child’s t-shirt or vest and their coat. And while a woolly jumper always fits the bill, something fleecy is also a great option, zip or no zip, hood or no hood, it’s all good.

Splash Suits and Waterproofs

To maximise outdoor fun, warmth and waterproofs are essential. Fleece lines fisherman style rain jackets are all the rage this year, accompanied by a pair of waterproof trousers or dungarees.

The ultimate in protection from rain, mud and puddles, however, has to be the splash or snow suit. If it’s really cold, then the splash suit will still need something really warm beneath, but the snow suit can be put over indoor clothes and then, like your child no doubt, is good to go.

Autumn is a magical time of the year, brimming with deep colours, wonderfully fresh, earthy smells, crisp mornings and atmospheric evenings. And if you start shopping around now, you can get some great deals that will make your children can look and feel fantastic for the remainder of 2017.
