Review: Leapfrog Leapband Activity Tracker

Like many children, ours enjoy chasing each other around the house, burning lots of energy (and making lots of noise) as they go. With so many of us and so little room in the house, we struggle to find ways to let them exert their energy without any casualties. This was when we discovered the most unlikely exercise device for kids, created by Leapfrog

Leapfrog have always been our favourite company when it comes to teaching children to read – but we didn’t know they could help them exercise too! The product is known as the Leapfrog Leapband Activity Tracker.

We’ve never seen anything like the Leapband. It gets kids up and active with 50 fun challenges, all which help power their virtual pet. They are able to wash, groom, and feed their pet, so they will feel a sense of responsibility and pride. Not only that, they are able to choose their own pet from a selection, which makes them feel a stronger bond towards their animated character.

It’s perfect for kids aged between 4-6, as they’ll be having fun in their virtual world, while still remaining healthy. In an age where so many young children have their own tablets and access to the internet, it’s refreshing to see a product on the market that gets children to work for what they want. It really a brilliant way to keep kids active without becoming out of control!

A big plus for us is the additional controls, which include school and quiet modes. This way, they won’t be able to play with it during schooltime or when the should be in bed, but they will still be able to tell the time!

We adore the Leapband, but the only drawback we had with it is the fact that it has no volume control. However, the advantages far outweigh this single disadvantage, so we would recommend it as a fun but healthy video console alternative.

You can buy your own Leapfrog Leapband Activity Tracker (Available in pink, blue, green, or orange) from Amazon here.
