Smart Decluttering Tips that will Help you Clear your Home

decluttering tips

Do you feel as though sometimes, it doesn’t matter what you do, because you just can’t seem to get your home clear? Maybe you want to take a step in the right direction when it comes to getting everything organized but just have no clue as to where you should be starting. Either way, one thing to take note of is that this is completely normal, and if you follow this guide, you should be able to turn this around in no time.

Allocate a Time

Start off by taking the time to dedicate five or ten minutes to your decluttering activity. The main benefit of setting a timer is that it gives you the chance to keep distractions at bay and you may even find that you can organize everything swiftly. If you can get a lot done in a very short space of time then this is key to making progress without having to constantly worry about being set back.

Establish a plan that you are going to stick to as well. Sit down and have a really good think about your home organization and the time/date you would like to get the job done. Now is the time for you to be setting achievable or even realistic goals too. It can be as simple as cleaning out a single drawer or trying to organize a shelf. If you just have nowhere to start then putting the boundary method into action is always wise. With this, you need to tidy up your junk drawer first so you have a good place to start and it also combats procrastination. After that, you then need to work by moving on to other things so you can get the overall result you want.

Take Photos

Another thing you can do is take photos of your home. Taking photos is one of the best ways for you to transform your garden as it means that you can stop thinking that what you are doing is not making a difference. Write down a list of rooms and make a priority list of which ones you want to tackle first.

At the end of the day, what you are dealing with right now is a marathon and not a sprint. The last thing you want to do is lose motivation halfway through because it will look worse before it looks better. Taking before and after photos on the other hand is one of the best ways for you to see the amazing progress you are making, so keep that in mind.

Nominate 5 Areas

Another tip would be for you to nominate 5 different areas of the home. It may be that you don’t need to declutter your entire home and that the thought of this is overwhelming. In this instance, you need to create a cluttered list of the things you have to deal with. Choose five areas that you would like to review and then start with just one. If you can do this then you will soon find that tasks become less daunting and that you are able to divide things up nicely.

When you have established a plan like this, you can then stick to it much better. Sure, it’s going to be tempting to move to a different room, and you may find that it is easier for you to declutter elsewhere too but if you can follow this rule, getting the job done becomes easier.

Play some Music

Playing some music is a great way for you to motivate yourself when cleaning your home. Before you start, queue up a nice playlist of all your top songs. This will help you to get everything done and you will be surprised at what a monumental difference it can make overall. If you have a bit of a phobia when it comes to decluttering then it is okay for you to ask for help.

You may also find that it is possible for you to look into hiring a moving service if you feel as though you need some support with that too. Decluttering before you move is always a good thing to do, and if you hire a moving service you know that when everything is boxed up, you have someone who can come and do the heavy lifting for you at least.

Get some Bags Ready

If possible you need to get some bags ready. You need to make sure that any bags you have put to one side for donations, actually leave the house. This can be difficult but at the end of the day, it’s a major issue for people who are trying to declutter. Make sure you have three bags ready at first, one for trash, one for donations and then one for selling. When you have done this, you then need to move your items to each of the bags. You can even put them in a car if you want, or at least out by the front door. Just make sure that you don’t leave the donation bag lying around or it will become clutter all over again. One way for you to fix this issue would be to try and arrange collection for the bag for a week after you begin to declutter your home. If you can do this then you will soon find that it becomes easier for you to get rid of it, which is so important.

Don’t Get Overwhelmed

If you feel as though you are getting overwhelmed then the best thing you can do is just stop. Don’t let your emotions get the better of you and instead, take the time to process everything. Break things down into small steps and go from there. If you can do this then you will soon see a major improvement in the way that you feel and the way that your home looks. Little things like this can also make you more likely to carry on with your decluttering journey, so be mindful of that.
