Slow Cooker Bread: Oat Bread Recipe

I had some postive feedback on last week’s homemade basic white bread recipe which can be made using a slow cooker rather than the oven.  I think quite a few people were shocked at the revelation that you don’t need an oven to make bread but the results, as they confirmed, were wonderful.

Here is another slow cooker bread recipe.  It is denser than the basic white loaf but just as delicious.

Slow Cooker Oat Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

24oz flour

8oz rolled oats

12oz warm milk

2oz warm water

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp yeast

2 tbsp olive oil

1 egg

2 tbsp treacle

Method:

Sift the flour and salt into a large bowl and stir in the rolled oats.

In a separate bowl whisk together the warm milk and water together with the yeast and sugar.  Add the egg and whisk.

Pour the liquid mixture into the flour and oat mixture.

Add the olive oil and treacle.

Combine all the ingredients then knead the dough for 5-10 minutes.

Grease two 14cm bowls.  Divide dough into two and shape into balls.  Place one ball of dough into each bowl and cover loosely with foil.

Place a trivet, two egg/crumpet rings or even a scrunched up ball of foil in the bottom of your slow cooker pot then place the bowls on top.

Add an inch or so of boiling water to the pot and place the lid on top.

Set the slow cooker to high and your bread will be ready in four hours.

  1. Do you have a slow-cooker recipe for wheat bread or can I substitute wheat flour for white flour in Oat bread recipe? Thanks.
