Even if you’re not allergic to your pets, it’s a good idea to keep them out of your bedroom and off your bed since you spend around eight hours a day there. Frequent baths can also help cut down on the amount of dander a pet sheds. If you have a cat, baths aren’t always an option, so a damp washcloth or a specially designed cleansing towelette you can buy at a pet store will also work.

Using the air conditioning is a great option for improving your indoor air quality and keeping the humidity levels at an appropriate level. Additionally, there are several upgrades for your HVAC system to make it even more efficient at improving indoor air quality. For example, there are UV lamps that shine on the system’s coils and kill mold and bacteria that try to grow there.

 

Ventilate When Cooking

Propane or gas stoves in the kitchen release nitrogen dioxide, which is a very irritating gas. When this gas combines with sunlight, it produces ozone, which is so irritating it can cause wheezing in people who don’t have asthma. To help, crack a kitchen window or turn on the fan hood when you’re cooking to prevent nitrogen dioxide buildup.

  1. After I learned how much allergens and germs are in my carpets (check out this article I read!) I’ve been much more on top of vacuuming my home and I think it’s helped my family stay healthier. I also make sure to use an air filter to keep the air clean and healthy. I also turn on the fan hood whenever I cook on the stove just to help with the heat and smell, I never knew it was making my home healthier too! Thanks for the info!
