It’s almost July and that means that our favourite Italian food and drink exhibition is back in London very soon!
We can’t believe that it’s a whole year since we teamed up with Bellavita, hosts of the biggest made-in-Italy food and beverage trade show in the UK. During our stay in Padua we spent over a month visiting various Italian artisan food and drink producers in the beautiful Veneto region of Italy.
Several of last year’s exhibitors allowed our family – 2 parents and 11 of our 13 children, to take a privileged glimpse behind the scenes of their products in the making. If you followed our journey you will remember our mouthwatering visit to Pasticceria Lorenzetti, creators of the best panettone in the world ever…
We also had a terrific visit behind the scenes of Gastronomia Il Ceppo not only to take a look at how their delicious, high quality frozen meals are created in their factory in Venezia…
…but also to taste their tantalisingly fabulous foods at their own restaurant tucked away in the wine cellar of their store!
Thanks, guys!
And we will never forget the wonderful day we spent at organic salad producer Barduca Bio. Another family run business as all the ones we visited were, we not only took back fabulous memories of our day, learnt a LOT about farming and growing food ethically and organically, but also left having made some marvellous friends too.
Oh yes, and we made the Italian newspapers too…
Having gone behind the scenes of these wonderful products, only one day after returning from Italy Mike and I continued to hit the road running and made our way over to the very event itself.
We already knew the commitment and quality of the producers was extremely high but we realised that this was the rule – no exception at all was made. Each and every exhibitor we spoke to was highly knowledgeable about their product, its production and its history. One thing that struck us that we absolutely loved was how many of these businesses were family run, moving on from generation to generation, each of which held onto the beliefs and goals of their founders and ancestors.
