If you have kids then there’s a high chance that you know how complicated life can be. You will have a ton of extra laundry to do and you may also find that you have bathing and cooking to deal with as well. If you want to help yourself here then there are a few things you can do to try and get things back on track.

Be Self-Sufficient

The first thing you need to do is try and be as self-sufficient as possible. The idea here is to teach your kids that they need to be doing things for themselves and that they are capable of doing so. Teaching them how to do things can be frustrating but it’s something that will pay off, years down the line. A lot of this will come down to the age of your child, but at the end of the day it can help you more than you realize. If you want to help yourself here then take into account your child’s ability rather than just their age. If you can do this then you will find it easier to assign them jobs that you know they are capable of.

One Calendar

You also need to make sure that you have one calendar for everything. If you have a child who goes to soccer and then another one who goes to dance class then be sure to add those in. Organize your life and add appointments too. If you can do this then all you have to do is give it a quick glance to find out what’s going on that day. If your child hands you papers from school or their soccer schedule for that year, take the time to add that to the calendar too. If you can do this then you will be able to plan your day properly and you will find it easier to get everything organized.

Toy Bins

It is a fact of life that kids have a great deal of toys. They are going to be everywhere too. If you want to avoid driving yourself crazy then one thing you need to do is make sure that you have a toy bin. Having a toy bin where you can throw all of your child’s toys when they are not using them will help you immensely. You can make it so you have one box for Lego and then another box for something else if you want, or you can have  multi-purpose toy bins where everything can go in them. Either way, the key is to avoid being too strict here. You need to make things simple, not more complicated.

Clean Up

If you don’t like a huge mess then teach your kids the importance of cleaning up after themselves. Let them make a mess as much as they want, but at the same time, make sure that you are telling them when it is time to clean up. It’s good to have regular times during the day when you clean up, as your kids will come to expect it. You may also want to try and get them to clean up at certain times of the day, such as at lunchtime or even at bedtime. If you can do this and if you can make sure that they have certain times of the day where they can devote to this then it’ll help you out a lot later down the line.

Quiet Routines

Kids, at the end of the day, thrive on routine. No routine is better than the one that they have right before they go to bed. Have a regular routine for them and make sure that you put a lot of effort into maintaining it. It can be hard to keep a routine when your life consists of constant stress, but at the end of the day, it’s so important. Read outloud to your kids right before bedtime and make sure that you quieten them down if they have had a lot of activity. If you can get them into the habit of reading then this will also work wonders for you and them, not to mention that it will also help to give you some quality time with them.

Prep the Night Before

Mornings can be a very busy time for parents at the end of the day, but it doesn’t need to be this way. Prep as much as you can the night before and make your mornings more relaxed. Prep lunches and take the time to get their clothes ready. It’s also a good idea for you to have them shower and get their homework bags ready. If you can do this and get everything together a little bit before you go out the door then this is the best way for you to make sure that your day goes off without a hitch.

Don’t Schedule too Much

If possible you need to make sure that you don’t schedule too much. You need to avoid scheduling things back-to-back and you also need to keep in mind that every minute of the day doesn’t have to be planned out. If you do plan every aspect of the day out then this will lead to stress more than you realize. It’s good to leave a little space between appointments or events so you can make sure that the day is always moving at a leisurely pace. If you have kids who get bored easily then one thing you can do is look into things like pretend play. This encourages your kids to use their imagination and it also helps them to feel more confident in themselves as a whole.

Family Time

Family time is so important at the end of the day. You need to make sure that you are finding time in your schedule to do nothing but spend time with each other. Have everyone sit down as a family together and make sure that there are no other activities planned during that time. Reserve certain days so you can unwind together and make sure that you are doing your best to plan things that you can look forward to. If you can do this and if you can get everyone on the same page then you will soon find that things end up working to your advantage.

Simple Clothing

Take the stress out of dressing your child by buying them simple clothing. You need clothes that match easily and you may also want to choose colors that have a matching scheme. If you can do this then you will soon find that you can avoid having to match certain things together and this will make your life much easier. Consider washing too. Don’t buy your kids a white t-shirt if it means you have to do a completely separate load of washing at a later date. It will add a lot of stress to your life that you just don’t need, so try and avoid this if possible.

So as you can see, there are a lot of steps you can take to try and make your life easier when you have kids, and if you follow this guide, you’ll find that there are a lot of things you can do to make sure that you not only simplify your life, but that you also make sure that you are not putting extra stress on your kids when it’s not needed. What works for you  might not work for someone else either, so always take into account the needs of your family where you can.
