Festive Days Out with the Family

festive days out

Christmas is a time for bringing family together – both inside the home, and outside of it. There are scores of wonderful attractions, up and down the country, aimed at drawing in families with festive-themed experiences, music and treats.

Christmas Events for Children in the UK

Let’s take a look at a few of the best family-friendly events the UK has to offer.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Doncaster

This amazing park in Yorkshire provides particular experiences at Christmas time. There’s a ‘winter illuminations’ light-and-lanterns trail, spread across all of the park’s various zones. New additions in 2023 are the ‘Space Odyssey’ and ‘Spirit of Christmas’ areas.

Illuminations at Bedgebury, Kent

The Christmas celebrations at Bedgebury are built around a series of illuninated trees. There are amazing light-tunnels, and other, even more special spectacles. Once you’ve finished the walk, you can enjoy toasted marshmallows, hot chocolates, and other treats.

Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park

Hyde Park is the centre of the Christmas experience in London. There’s a lot of activities and distractions crammed into a small space, here, with rollercoasters, ice rinks, Ferris wheels, and more, crammed in alongside all of the festive food and drink you could enjoy in one sitting. You can reach London from many destinations across the UK via train, making this a convenient day-trip as well as a magical one.

Lapland UK, Ascot

This attraction, near Ascot, is among the most popular festive events in the country. You can walk there from the train station, or park for free onsite. You can expect a lot of Santa Claus, here – Netmums describe it as a four-hour walk-through ‘origin story’ for Father Christmas. You can expect a lavish experience, but not a cheap one – you could book an overseas holiday for this price. For many, however, the cost is justified by the experience.

Reindeer Lodge, North Wales

You can think of Reindeer Lodge as a drive-through Safari, focussed on reindeer. As well as the herds themselves, there’s a chance for encounters with hidden elves, toy workshops, and Father Christmas himself. New this year is a walk-in Christmas village experience, complete with hot food and drinks.

LEGOLAND at Christmas, Windsor Resort

The appeal of Legoland is not difficult to understand: if you’re a fan of Lego, then you’ll enjoy yourself, here. There are dozens of Christmas-themed models to enjoy, as well as a huge DUPLO Christmas Tree, and lots of hidden scenes in Miniland. Santa Claus tours the park on the back of a sleigh, too. If you’d like to pull the stops out, then you might extend your trip with an overnight stay in the on-site hotel.
