Take care in the sun

Sun exposure is the number one cause of skin cancer. Stay out of the sun or cover-up. Use a high factor sun cream that protects against UVA and UVB rays and wear a hat to keep the sun off your head. You should also wear good quality sunglasses to protect your eyes and prevent cataracts. You should also completely avoid sunbeds.

Watch what you eat and drink

At any age, you should watch what you eat and drink. However, this becomes even more important as we age. A healthy diet can prevent several types of cancer as well as high cholesterol.

You should be eating five portions of fruit and veg each day as well as plenty of whole grains such as brown rice and healthy cereals. You should eat less saturated fat, refined sugars and processed meats such as bacon and ham.

You may also need to consider how much alcohol you drink. While it is ok to have a drink occasionally you should avoid daily drinking or binge drinking.

Quit smoking

If you want to be conscious about your health and you smoke, then it is time to quit. Not only can it lead to many cancers it may also make it harder for you to exercise and do other things that are good for your health.
