Moving homes is a stressful endeavour that we all have to endure from time to time, but the end process is usually worth it when all the dust has settled. There are actions that you can take to make things run smoothly in just a few simple steps, they will also help you avoid the temptation of pulling your hair out!
De-clutter before you move
Decluttering your home can be a great way to start the moving process, get rid of everything that you don’t need in your new home and be on your way to starting afresh with a lot less baggage.
You don’t have to throw everything in the trash to get rid of it, instead, have a garage sale or sell items on Ebay and you may even earn some spare cash in the process. When it comes to old clothes, there are a lot of charity shops that you can donate them to.
Categorise your items
Label boxes and storage items with the correct names so you can easily pack up, transport and locate things when it comes to unpacking at your new destination.
Shoving everything randomly into different boxes makes no sense and is counterproductive in the long run.
Look at hiring a removal company
A quick Google search for moving companies in your area won’t take long at all, you could even ask your friends for recommendations for a more trusted source. Good removal companies do this sort of thing all the time, so it may be worth spending a little cash to prompt the move and make the entire process less hassle for you.
Read up on what a company offers in full before you pay for anything, look into their damage and refund policies too. Some companies won’t cover damage and others don’t lift items that have been boxed.
Other companies may need payment a few weeks in advance, so be sure to get them booked in time as last minute planning may not work. Nobody wants an unexpected surprise when it comes to moving day.
Use the original boxes for your electronics
Your electronic devices are fragile, especially things like TVs so use the boxes that were designed for them. Use foam and bubble wrap to give them more protection and cushion too.
Ask your friends for help
Asking around for a little helping hand is perfectly normal, it could be to help you lift and move things or maybe you need a babysitter or dog sitter for moving day. If you don’t ask you won’t get.
Make a copy of important papers
This one is a simple tip. Keep a backup copy of all your important documents in files that you can easily relocate. This could be birth certificates, social security cards, tax claims or proof of insurance.
These are just a few ideas that could save you literally hours of time and lots of cash. Keep it in your head that the move is going to be worth it and it will be over in no time.
