Free Skinny Me 2012 – Week 4

After several weeks of apathy and half-heartedness, this week has seen a new bout of determination to succeed at this diet thing.  Quite honestly, the thought of once again always wearing maternity clothes even when I’m not pregnant is so upsetting.  I really do want to be able to treat myself to a new outfit that isn’t from the pregnant mum-to-be range.

I have gone back to basics.  I am monitoring my food much better and trying to drink more water.  I am asking myself whether I’m truly hungry or just bored when I fancy something to eat.  We have a supply of fruit, vegetables and low fat yogurts for breakfasts and lunches.  Dinner can still be pretty much what it was and I’m not snacking in the evenings unless I really, really want something.  I still allow myself a Cadbury’s  Highlights hot chocolate drink with low fat squirty cream on top as my nightly treat.

I have also finally done something about my relative inactivity.  Of course, I am busy during the day with general running about and looking after small people but it’s just not the same as making a determined effort to exercise.  With our new cross trainer bought from our friends’ parents I have resolved to hop on there daily for as long as I’m able to, either until someone needs me or until my body has reached its limit.

Diet and exercise.  That’s the key, right?

So I was utterly disappointed to jump hopefully on the scales to find myself back to the weight I was two weeks ago.  I’m very puzzled and can’t work out what is going on so I have made an executive decision.  Well, a couple of changes actually.

I am only going to weigh in on here once a month – on the first of the month.  There should hopefully be a positive, noticeable change and will avoid having any great discrepencies of weight as it puts me off entirely when I have been so very good (like this week) yet the scales are screaming something different.

I have taken measurements of my body.  No, I won’t be telling you how big my belly is.  Instead I’ll be telling you how much has been lost from my measurements at each first-of-the-month weigh in.

I will still keep the Monday Free Skinny Me posts going.  It helps for me to have some accountability and to analyse what I have done and what I should have done but didn’t.
I would love company and support so if you are also trying to lose weight why not join the quest to “Free Skinny Me!”?  You don’t need to be following Weight Watchers to do so and your weigh in day doesn’t have to be a Monday.  You can also grab the badge at the top of this post.  Put it on your blog if you like, then come back each Monday to report each week’s weigh in result or give your weekly progress update in the comments section.

You can also write a post on your own blog and leave a link back to it in the comments below so we can visit and leave a message of encouragement or support. You can choose how much or little info to disclose.

You can follow my quest to “Free Skinny Me!” by subscribing to a full feed in your reader.  You can also chat with me throughout the week on Twitter  (click here or search for the handle “@largerfamily” and let me know if you are doing the quest so I can follow you back) and become a Facebook friend too.   Don’t forget that we now have our very own Healthy Living board in our new LFL Family Forums.

  1. Oh I can sooooo relate to this post!
    Tell me about it!
I train 5 times a week, uber careful with food and diet, jump on the scales and bingo up I go!
If I see 12 stone 5 again I will scream.
I have shot from 12 stone 9 to 12 stone 2 and there I remain, going up and down inbetween each week.
I don’t seem to go any lower. No matter how much I try.
I am really attempting to keep going, telling myself like you it’s the long term that matters.
    It’s hard.
I have lived in larger size Primark clothes for six months, migrated down two dress sizes and still have two more to go. I refuse to buy anything nice or in fact anything I absoulty do not need until I have lost the weight.
    Hang on in there.
It will work in the end.
Where on earth have you put a cross trainer????!!!!!!

  2. I have reached my mini goal! YAY!!!! This was way sooner then expected, but what a pleasant surprise! Esp. when you consider the fact that in the last 10 yrs, I’ve only lost weight while pregnant (which I’m not…I think).

    Starting weight: 270 lbs
    Current weight: 254 lbs
1st Mini goal: lose 15 lbs by March 2. Missions accomplished in 6 weeks!
2nd Mini goal: lose another 15 lbs by March 2
Final goal: lose 70 lbs by next pregnancy
    Total weight loss: 16 lbs
Pounds yet to lose: 54 lbs
