Do you see what I see?

Do you see my cucumbers?

What do you mean you can’t see them?

Look again…

Still no?

Look closer…

You don’t see them?

You’re right.

That would be because of the *insert appropriate word here* slug(s) that ate them all overnight.

I hate slugs.

I hate slugs that eat my plants as much as I hate the foxes that want to get hold of my chickens.

I want to kill the slugs.

I don’t feel bad about wanting to kill them.

I would prefer to do it organically, though.

Is Nemaslug any good?  It’s looking to be expensive if I buy it and it’s no good.

What would you recommend to get rid of them because, trust me, I have no energy to stay up til it’s dark to hunt them down with a torch and seek revenge with the back of my trowel.  Although I have to admit the thought of squishing them gives me far more satisfaction than I feel may be acceptable.

  1. We've had a lot of luck using beer. It's cheap and it actually works. Dig a hole deep enough to put a large plastic cup in. Put the cup in the hole and surround with dirt so it's level with the ground. Fill it about 90% of the way to the top with beer…the slugs are drawn to the yeast and hops/barley and will fall in and drown. 🙂 Best of luck!
