Our Top Picks for a Cosy Home This Winter

One way of making it through the winter months is, for me, to make my home a haven from whatever the weather outside chooses to do. I struggle through the cold dark months and so, finding a beauty in something that makes me feel warm, cosy and snug is just the answer to making it through until spring. Here are some of my favourite finds:

Let There Be Light With The Aske Lantern

We (and yes, I’m using the royal ‘we’. By ‘we’ I do mean ‘Mike’), have recently repainted the living room and replaced the carpet with a new floor. We have also removed the fireplace and in its place now sits this lovely lantern from Amara Living. With the large lantern measuring 50cm tall and housing 40 LED lights and the smaller lantern measuring 32cm tall and containing 20 LED lights, these are a lovely little addition to any room, especially in the evenings with the curtains drawn.

Fill Your Home with the Scent of Winter

I love candles but am quite particular when it comes to choosing them. Cheaper candles have an unbearable manufactured scent that I cannot abide so I think that if you’re going to do candles, spend a little more to do them wonderfully well. A good sign that I like a candle is when I keep returning into a shop to have one more sniff of it. This Winter Botanical Candle from The White Company had me making several return trips. As well as its warm and spicy smell, the collection of cinnamon sticks, berries and orange slices makes it stunningly decorative as well. And if you’re quick you can grab them while they’re on offer too.

Get Decoratively Festive in Style

Another find from Amara Living is this gorgeous decorative ornament by Gisela Graham. The snow-covered trees flank the church in this wintry scene set within a glass dome. The church also lights up making it the perfect addition to the room for the festive season and you can also find more to add to Gisela Graham’s range at Amara.com too.

Hibernate with Window Shutters

If only my home had beautiful large bay windows and could get away with installing some stunning window shutters, then it would definitely be one of the first things I would do. There is something so aesthetically pleasing about them, especially the tier-on-tier shutters (above) that I absolutely love, and you can really feel like you’re leaving the outside world far behind even when it is whipping up a storm outside. They double up as fantastic blackouts for the early summer mornings too so a perfect year-round solution for your windows that are a little bit different to the usual curtains.

Wrap yourself up

Finally, how better to get cosy, comfy and warm than by wrapping yourself in a soft and snug throw? Made in Italy from 100% lambswool and in a shade of grey that will match any decor, this throw from John Lewis is as suited in the living room as it is in the bedroom. It is also tremendous value for money at just £60. Love it!
