If I had a spare £27,000…

It’s not like I was ever really into cars before I had kids, but every now and then I spot a terribly impractical model that makes me immediately want to advertise our minibus on Gumtree. Our current vehicle ticks all the boxes. More than anything, it seats everyone in our family. It has loads of space which is important when we’re travelling and it’s incredibly practical for a family our size. Trimmed with mud, lone socks, biscuit crumbs and dirty hand prints, there’s a reason for opting for practicality over looks. Our other vehicle is a lovely little Volkswagen Beetle, but that is at the other end of the spectrum. It only seats four, its boot space is limited and it’s not very easy to get in and out of the rear seats. But I do love it dearly.

And then I saw this…

What I wouldn’t do to take the new Volkswagen Amarok for a spin. Pick me! Pick me! I’ll be a Trailblazer! Please? I mean, just LOOK…

Now I’m not a farmer or constructor that needs an off-road vehicle on a day to day basis but I can definitely imagine stuffing a few of the kids into the back and heading off into the wilderness for the weekend. Could this work as a family car? Well, the rubber floor covering gets a massive tick to start and there’s child seat mountings in the back too. Bikes, scooters, buggies and shopping can easily be thrown in the load bed without worry and the high raised seats in the back offer great views.

I’m converted, now to convince Mike – but I don’t think that’ll be too difficult to do. And then I just need to find £27,000. And perhaps organise a little test drive too...
