Every parent knows how important it is to give your child the best birthday. Not only do you want them to have fun, you also want to give them lasting memories of great times with their family and friends. But with work commitments, parenting pressures and the notion of entertaining dozens of their classmates, it can seem like a daunting task. Luckily for you, we’ve come up with six little tricks to put a birthday party together in the most hassle-free way.

  1. Plan out your day

It sounds obvious, but having an idea of the running order of the party will really put your mind at ease. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, but knowing your ideal start and finish times, when you will play games, eat and sing happy birthday, will give you a sense of order amongst the chaos. Try to stick to the plan on the day – but if it doesn’t work, no-one will be any wiser.

  1. Choose your venue carefully

When it comes to venue choice, pick what’s best for your circumstances. Having it at your home is a great option if you’re on a budget, and lets you control all elements of the party. If you don’t have the space, or you want more taken care of for you, hiring a venue – a soft play or a community hall – could take some off the pressure away. The space there is usually bigger, and sometimes include the provision of food as part of the package, which is an added bonus!

  1. Plan ahead for food allergies

Worrying about party guests having allergies will add stress to your day, so try to consider potential allergies in your menu. The most common, and potentially the most harmful allergy, is to nuts, so strip those out of your menu just in case. Parents are likely to tell you if their child is allergic to anything, but if you’re concerned, remind them on the invitations to let you know if their child has any dietary requirements.

  1. If in doubt, order pizza

If your life is especially chaotic, the thought of preparing a kids’ buffet might fill you with dread. But if you’re really pushed for time, why not order pizza to be delivered to your venue? The kids will love the extra-special treat, and you will love the ease of ordering and having the party food brought to your door.

  1. Get rid of dish duties

Make the clean-up as easy as possible by saving yourself time on the dishes. Why not treat yourself to some disposable party supplies, which can be thrown in the bin after use, don’t need to be washed, and can’t be broken by busy party-goers?

  1. Keep party bag treats simple

Kids love a party bag to take away with them, but it doesn’t mean you have to slave away for hours trying to think of something original. Cake is a must (perhaps add a piece for the exhausted parents) and a sweet treat or two will always go down well. Stuck for other ideas? Why not try adding a piece of fruit, playful masks or little jigsaw puzzle to the bag? Fellow parents will thank you for providing an additional source of entertainment too!
