The stress of a modern-day work environment and the pressures of contemporary living can have a dramatic effect on anyone’s wellbeing, but there are things you can do about it. Health and happiness are irrevocably entwined, and the little things can have a tremendously positive effect on your mental and physical wellbeing. Here are 10 tips to become a healthier and happier you:

–         Beginning with the basics, do more things that you enjoy. This means taking a little time to do something that you enjoy, especially if it is creative. Maintaining a blog is a good example, writing a short story or even painting are other things to consider. Photography is a popular example of such a pastime.

–         Keep hydrated: a lot of people fail to consume the recommended amount of water each day, which can have surprising consequences, including headaches and fatigue. Ensuring you drink plenty of water is a relatively simple way to make yourself feel better during the day.

–         Ensure exposure to sunlight within reasonable means. The vitamin D that is produced in doing so has a number of benefits, including reducing the risk of heart disease and osteoporosis amongst other ailments. Be sensible, however, and make sure you don’t get burned.

–         What we eat is very important so eating well is something that cannot be ignored in this list. Diets that can be considered primal are a good example of what is optimal to consume. This includes fruit and vegetables as well as eggs, meat and fish. This kind of varied diet allows the necessary nutrients to enter your body with a corresponding positive effect on your wellbeing. Processed foods are obviously to be avoided.

–         Aerobic exercise is an excellent way of improving your mood. About 30 minutes of a relatively fast pace can mean that you have less risk of chronic diseases, and it is quite an easy thing to make time to do. Parks exist for a reason!

–         On a similar note, resistance exercise – which is different to the above – facilitates the strengthening of your body and allows you to maintain muscle mass. This is not only good for your body, but can make you feel more confident in your body too.

–         Sleep is very important. Getting enough sleep in our modern world can prove very difficult in a fast-paced environment, and a lot of people actually fail to do so. This fatigue can result in a serious downturn of your mood and can be avoided by something as simple as getting to bed earlier at night. Often sleep issues are a result of something latent that is troubling you, so try figure out what this may be

–         Surround yourself with positivity: being around people that are positive will rub off on you. Try to spend more time with people that you know have a positive outlook on life and you may well find that you begin to develop one too!

–         You can make yourself more confident about your health by going for check-ups such as a hearing test, amongst others. This will mean that you are more aware of what is happening with your own body.

–         If you find yourself feeling fatigued a lot of it may be due to the lack of certain nutrients in your diet, so taking supplements such as Omega 3 may be a good way of introducing these nutrients back into your body without too much effort.

–         Make plans for the future which you can assess as well as having annual goals. This will enable you to realise what you really want to do with your life and take steps to achieve this!
