Kitchens aren’t the safest of places at the best of times and considering that many people see them as the heart of the house, imagine how dangerous it could be for your children.

It may seem a bit of a pain to have to childproof your kitchen but it will stop you from going crazy.  Let’s be honest, preventing any unnecessary hassle and heartache is always a good thing. You may be asking why the kitchen, why not the bathroom or the lounge.

Well, with all the potential dangers around you in the kitchen, things like knives, glass and other appliances that can cause harm; the kitchen is naturally the first room you should look to make a safe environment for your children.

Keeping things like bleach and surface cleaners out of reach of your children is a must. Whether you’ve got a toddler or a wandering baby, youngsters seem to have a tendency to put things in their mouth. This is definitely something you’d want to avoid.

There’s always the problem of things being opened. Most hazardous products/chemicals these days come with child-resistant caps on them which are always handy.

Knives & Sharp Objects

Sort of goes without saying that you would keep things like kitchen knives, scissors and cutlery out of reach of your children.

The last thing you want is an accident happening involving a knife or something of a similar, pointy kind.

There are an almost endless amount of edges and corners in kitchens; from kitchen worktops to the corners of your range cooker.

You can buy edge and corner protectors which are cushioned so that in the worst case scenario, if your child was to fall over and hit their head, it wouldn’t hurt anywhere near as much as it would if there was no protector there.
