You probably know him best for his part in the hilarious sketch show, Peep Show, alongside comedian David Mitchell. But Robert Webb has recently taken on a new role that is spreading like a child’s rash online, and the price comparison brand has gone viral.
In a fantastic pairing, Robert Webb has teamed up with Compare the Market to introduce us to the sarcastic and dry-humoured CEO and company founder, Maurice Wigglethorpe-Throom, dressed in velvet with a full head of ginger curls.
In the newest advertisement, shown exclusively here on largerfamilylife.com, Maurice Wigglethorpe-Throom uses a “terrifically witty and clever” analogy involving a suspiciously brown piece of cake to show you exactly why you should use comparethemarket.com to choose an energy supplier for your family.
Wigglethorpe-Throom is the new brand ambassador of comparethemarket.com, replacing the much-loved meerkat, Alexsandr Orlov. After initially clarifying the difference between ‘meerkat’ and ‘market’ in Wigglethorpe-Throom’s original ad for the brand, the company is making it obvious that it is evolving from its animal past into an era of clever catchphrases and humorous analogies.
A joke is always funnier if it’s at someone else’s expense. And that’s exactly what Robert Webb does.
This isn’t the first time a comedic pairing has worked wonders to liven up a brands reputation. The Webb and Compare the Market union could follow in the footsteps of the highly successful Foster’s Funny adverts which saw Alan Partridge, played by Steve Coogan, inject fresh comedy into the famous beer brand.
But while beer has always had an element of humour and tom-foolery associated with it, who knew insurance could be quite as funny?
