A constant challenge of having young children is trying to find ways of keeping learning fun. This is where word games such as Scrabble Junior by Mattel come into a league of their own. There is nothing like ‘interrupting’ a home educating morning full of sounding out words and letters with the phrase, ‘Shall we play a game instead?’
Ha! Fooled you, kids! You’re still learning!
Scrabble Junior is a version of the popular board game which has been specially designed for 2-4 young players aged five and up. The box contains a two-sided board – one side set out in a crossword format which has words already printed into the grid suitable for younger players and a second side allowing older players to get on with creating their own words.
Each player picks seven tiles then take turns to match up their letters to the words on the board. The board also has colourful pictures of the words therefore encouraging the children to sound out the pictures and work out how the words are formed. Keeping tabs on the score is also designed for little learners by way of using counters.
It’s a great resource for learning to spell and makes learning enjoyable – albeit sneakily – too!
Scrabble Junior is available from all good sellers including Amazon.
