Children always love to dress up in their Super-hero costumes and play make-believe, bringing their adventures one step closer to reality. It’s all real in their minds and watching them as their imaginary world unfolds is a great source of entertainment for me.
Jokers’ Masquerade offered us the opportunity to try out a costume of our choice so it was a no-brainer what this houseful of Harry Potter fans would like to try. A quick ‘Harry Potter fancy dress’ search and we found just what we needed. A deluxe robe, a wand, a Firebolt broomstick and of course the all important Harry Potter glasses were precisely what we needed to turn Sid into:

It could be said that the light is poor photography on my part or it could be the magical glow that occurred. You decide.
The costume was very impressive, very well made and good quality, thick fabric which survived the ‘It’s my turn now!’ tugging astonishingly well. The broomstick has been put into service with sweeping the kitchen floor for which it’s not actually very practical, but as a convincing Harry Potter accessory it works admirably although it does not fly. Likewise the wand won’t help cast real spells but it’s probably for the best as, given the amount of times the boys are reprimanded for not tidying up they may well shut me up once and for all by turning me into a frog.
All in all this was a great little costume to put together as long – as you don’t expect real flying or spells and stuff. The costume fitted six year old Sid well as well as nine year old Harry (Sullivan, not Potter), though it was quite swamping on the very slightly built Paddy. This didn’t do anything to mar his enjoyment of wearing it though. Even the glasses which I thought might be a little delicate actually have withstood some half-decent punishment which was pleasantly surprising.
Jokers’ Masquerade offer a wide range of costumes for adults and children, ranging from the traditional Superhero costume to Loony Tunes and Disney and costumes for ‘occasion’ days too. They even have a range of products on offer in their clearance section so you can bag a bargain and replenish the dressing up box in your home (yours or the kids one – you decide!).
