Back in the 1990′s De Agostini Publishing brought out an educational series of books titled How My Body Works. One day my mum stumbled across the almost complete collection and bought them for my children. Since then our family has grown considerably, we’ve turned to home educating and these books have played a vital part in our children’s education about the human body over and over again.
Today De Agostini are bringing How My Body Works into the present with the launch of their very first app. This educational app has
progressed from the original books, using modern technology to bring the human body to life. 3D male and female models are featured allowing the user to take an interactive journey through the body, learning through a great variety of videos, text and animations.
The basic app can be downloaded to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch for free and includes the sensory system allowing your child to get learning right away. Additional systems can then be bought separately or as a
bundle of the entire set, providing a full and thorough explanation on how both the male and female bodies work.
The images are wonderfully clear and the explanations concise and accurate throughout, given in a way that young children can understand and grasp easily. The cartoons bring in an element of fun and light-heartedness to the learning, keeping children engrossed and holding their attention. Meanwhile, the videos provide a more realistic explanation – the two elements contrasting yet complementing the learning experience well. Users can zoom in and out of the 3D bodies, rotating and navigating their way through various levels.
The How My Body Works app contains more than 100 colourful animations explaining various functions of the human body and over 100 cartoons and interactive games. Although we have managed to have a sneak peek at the app, we have barely scratched the surface of all it contains. It is certainly very informative, highly educational and, in my opinion, well worth the investment due to the sheer amount of content it provides.
How My Body Works can be downloaded free from the iTunes store from today, with additional sections available for £1.99 or the entire bundle for just £9.99 – undoubtedly worth every penny.

This looks great. I might give it a go on my iPad.
