Everyone likes to know that they live in a safe area, so that they can feel secure and protected in their home. If you’re looking to buy a home somewhere like that, Virgin Money Home Insurance released some details regarding the safest places one can live in either England or Wales.
Their findings showed that the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea, home to some of the most expensive properties in the city, is the safest area in the UK. Dudley, in the West Midlands, is just behind the, followed by Poole in Dorset. Both these locations are recorded as experiencing a low number of burglaries. Doncaster, however, in South Yorkshire, is considered the least safe place to own a home!
These findings from Virgin Money Home Insurance are based on a rating system designed to measure the risk of certain factors in major towns and cities. Locations are ranked according to statistics like the number of reported crimes, the amount of burglaries committed, risk of flooding, and available protection from forces like the local police and voluntary organisations like Neighbourhood Watch.
Alongside poor old Doncaster, two of the other unsafe cities in England and Wales are Sheffield and Nottingham. These cities all suffer from higher burglary risks, criminal damage, and flooding. Even though Kensington and Chelsea ranked well overall in the Virgin Money survey, they do nevertheless have a high risk of burglaries.
If you’re looking for a safe area to live, statistics can be helpful indicators. However, they don’t always show you everything about an area. And of course, even in areas where the risk of burglary is low, if you don’t take appropriate precautions with your home security then you could still fall victim to an occasional opportunist. Be sure to install a reliable security system and that you have quality home insurance – have a look at www.endsleigh.co.uk and see what they can offer you. This could even have the added benefit of lowering your insurance premium.
