Larger Family Life – the future

Well, we’re busy trying to implement some changes to the site so I thought I would update you all as to some of our plans and what to expect, and also to offer you the chance to give your opinions (only nice ones will be listened to  ) and feedback.

Over the last year and a half in particular the site has grown immensely. This is great for us but it is also very time-consuming for me to continue doing the bulk of the work on it pretty much single-handedly. After all, as well as writing about family life I have to live it too!

After some lengthy discussions on where to take LFL from here we decided to allow it to evolve and grow some more but it needs some changes in order for it to be able to do so.

We’ve decided to outsource some of the general article writing in order to increase the information available in the various categories on the site. This means that we will be bringing in more ttc, pregnancy, baby and family related topics. We will also be publishing more recipes, crafts and educational features, hopefully to include printables and worksheets specially created for our readers to print off and use (for free, of course).

We hope to develop the money section further including more frugal tips and money/finance related articles to help stretch the pennies.

I will be keeping the ‘My Chatter’ section which will purely be me babbling and getting on my soapbox as usual as we don’t want to compromise and give up the personal aspect of the site which we feel is important to keep. However, we don’t want to limit what LFL is capable of growing into and now that it is almost four years old we feel that it is established enough to be able to allow it to do so.

One thing we do want to focus on more are the forums and we would love to see them continue to grow and thrive. However, I can’t be everywhere and do everything at once and I am aware of the potential pitfalls of having active forums especially as they grow so we might need to turn to our regulars for support, and we’re also thinking that we may need to take on a moderator or two just to keep things turning and growing here, to encourage conversation and also to keep an eye on things. If this is something you might be interested in volunteering to help us with please do let me know.

I am sure there is plenty more to tell you but I can’t remember it all I have rambled on for long enough.
