[...] This figure alone, disregarding the facts that we are both taxpayers ourselves and that we meet the costs of educating our children ourselves, is far, far, far higher than anything our whole family receives in child benefit or child tax credit combined. [...]

Hi Tania
Id just like to say how much I admire you and your large family,a big thumbs up to you bringing them up from your hard earned hubbys business and they all look so delightful and well groomed and cared for…here’s to baby number 12.A big thumbs up Tania.
Thank you, Steph. Just to point out that we both work so not solely relying on dh. Thanks for good wishes for baby 12
I work in Housing Benefits, and the new benefit cap will really effect large families so its a good job you don’t rely on them. Families will receive a maximum of £500 a week in benefits, unless one of the parents is disabled or one of the parents gets working tax credits. Basically it is a big stick in trying to get people back to work and to limit the amount of children they have if they can’t afford them.
Hi Esther,
Thank you for commenting. As I stated in the article I’ve linked to above, there definitely does need to be a reform to the entire benefits system as it is clearly one which doesn’t work but the reform needs to go hand in hand with bringing up a worker’s pay to be in line with the cost of living.
(Again it might be worth clarifying that housing benefit doesn’t apply to us as we own our own home).
Hi Tania,
It seems to me like you’re doing a fantastic job with your family and it certainly isn’t your fault that it is virtually impossible to earn a wage in this country that people can soley live off without it being topped up no matter how many children you do or don’t have. You have, as have I, saved the tax payer a small fortune by being a home educator but the critics want to ignore that bit don’t they?!
That is true, Alexandra. I have also seen some stating that we receive money for home educating which as you are aware we don’t receive a penny and fund it ourselves.
Yet still we hear the cries of “our taxes!”. Perhaps we ought to point out that our taxes support their children in their school education even though our own children don’t use it?
Tbh I’d rather someone work and get tax credits as a top up than those I see where there’s only 2 children, 1 parent working, refusing any benefits but yet there isn’t enough money for basic food, warmth and clothing.
Keep up the great job you are both doing.
