Journey 2: The Mysterious Island follows Sean (played by Josh Hutcherson) who with his new step-father Hank (Dwayne Johnson – aka The Rock) embarks on a mission to find Sean’s missing grandfather.
The trip starts off with a helicopter ride with the pilot (played by Luis Guzman) and his daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), but it’s not long before disaster strikes and the helicopter crashes, putting all their lives in peril.
Despite the fact that nothing is supposed to exist, they land on a mysterious, mythical island where its beauty masks the real dangers lurking around every corner. Our rescuers need to find Sean’s grandfather but can they overcome the oversized wasps and great creatures that they’ve only ever seen in their normal, bug like size. Can they all find Grandfather and get off the island before seismic shockwaves send the island under water once and for all?
Journey 2 is a great family film with superb effects though definitely geared toward the younger viewers. There were some fabulous animations bringing the scenery to life/ The film is make-believe, pretend fun that kids will love although we did have a couple of younger family members finding the giant insects a little too much to handle, and the 3D effects make it all the more convincing and real.
It’s fantasy, it’s enjoyable and it’s got a good mixture of humour and nail-biting action.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is available on DVD, Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray Triple Play and Blu-Ray 3D now.
